Braces can set your smile straight and eliminate all the gaps between your teeth. Many people are scared of getting braces, because of the rotating rumors about it. Lets break some myths and facts about it!! 

Myths: Once I get my braces off my teeth will be straight forever!

Fact: Teeth aren’t permanently attached to your mouth with braces. They are simply guided in a way to make them straight. When braces are removed, the teeth no longer have that barrier. … Many people who become stressed will either grind their top and bottom teeth or clench them together tightly.

Myth: I’m too old for braces

Fact: You’re never too old for braces!” There genuinely is no upper age limit on wearing braces and having straighter teeth. We see patients well into their 40s, 50s and 60s who are tired of smiling through closed lips or hiding their teeth behind their hands.

Myth: Braces are extremely painful.

A simple way to get some braces pain relief is to rub an oral anesthetic like Orajel or Anbesol directly on the sensitive teeth and gums

Myth: Traditional braces are my only option.

Fact: For these reasons, braces have long been a popular choice for treating misaligned teeth and jaws. The only proven alternative to braces is jaw surgery, for which not everyone meets the criteria.

Myths: Braces take two or more years for desired results.

Facts: Nonetheless, it takes about two to three years for braces to deliver the desired outcomes in adults on average. Often, three years is the maximum time. But time depends on the brace maintenance procedures, diet, and age of the patient.

 

Myths: I can’t play sports with braces

Facts: Athletes of all ages can be confident that their braces can be protected while playing sports. Orthodontists agree that, yes, you can still play sports with braces as long as you take precautions to protect your braces and mouth with a mouthguard.

 

Myths: Braces will set off metal detectors at airports. 

Facts: Metal braces are relatively small and made from lightweight metals like titanium or stainless steel, they will not set off most metal detectors at airports.
